The Redwood National Park

In a hurry. On the California coast, saw elk and Seals. Write more later. Headed to Oregon to Crator Lake National Park.

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Saturday morn we are on our way to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The Mountaintop blew in 1915, there are many lakes and streams, but is still considered an active volcano.

We found out that only 1 mile of the park road was open because they we still actively clearing snow and ice from the roads. The temperature reading 30 minutes from the park read 77 degrees All along the roadside there are large rocks that are brown and black, maybe remains from the last eruption, but you would think that in almost 100 years someone would have removed them from the land; it appears to be cattle grazing land now. The first stop was sculpture springs, where there is heated, liquefied mud, and as you

Probably imagine it did not smell good. We then traveled to the other side of the mountain to the other entrance to see the area of devastation. We saw the most snow so far on the trip here.

Yosemite

Thurs Morn we arrived in Yosemite National Park. We had a leisurely day of sightseeing and headed to our campsite at about 3:00. We were right next to a river and the woods were full of birds. We cooked some real food. We had Steak, Chicken and Smores. We all went to bed early; the boys are hiking to the top of Yosemite Falls tomorrow. It is a 2700 foot ascent, 60 switchbacks, and roundtrip is about 8 miles. The boys looked really worn out when they were done, and Randy said it was the most grueling hike he has ever done, but the views at the top were breathtaking, they rivaled The Grand Canyon. The boys started @ 7:30 and were back @ 3:00. The girls and I spent the day taking Tours and picnicking in the Valley Village. We promptly headed out of the park before the weekend rush. We are headed to one of our favorite camping spots for the night enroute to Lassen Volcanic National Park tomorrow morning and onto Redwood National Park in the afternoon and evening. After that we are headed into Oregon and there seems to be a large stretch of nothing so I may not post again until Monday or so. Lots of Love, wish you all were here with us.

The City of Sanger, California

Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park

We headed north east out of Los Angeles. The first landscape change we noticed was large mountains covered with bright greens, than as quickly as it came it flattened out to flat plains as far as you could see. We noticed lots of Vineyards, miles and miles of grape vines. Next came miles and miles of Orange groves, we decided to stop at a roadside stand and purchase some local produce. I am not kidding when I say we had the best oranges and strawberries ever. Shortly after that we arrived at Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. Giant Sequoia trees only grow at altitudes of 5000-9500 feet, so we had some mountains to climb. The trees were massive. We saw a bear, coyote and a roadrunner. Next onto Kings Canyon the views were the biggest of this trip. There was some flower which filled the air with fragrance, we looked for it but could not find the plant. We stopped on a canyon ridge to have dinner and church, then we drove to the next town of Sanger, California about 1 hour away. We are once again heading to the wal-mart in Fresno. We may stay there for the night if we can’t make it to the campground in
Millerton. Tomorrow we are headed for Yosemite National Park.
